The Equine Influenza (EI) outbreak put a dampener on the activities of the Emmaville Pony Club but plans are now underway for the return to horseback.
The club missed holding their annual camp last year due to EI and are very excited to have events back on the calendar. The season will begin with an interclub gymkhana at Tenterfield Showground and will continue with further club events to take place at historic Deepwater Station. Despite its name, many members are also from Deepwater, Dundee and Glen Innes.
Emmaville Pony Club secretary Jenny Farlow said the club is a great way for young riders to become familiar with horses.
We would welcome anyone interested in providing your child with that ‘pony club’ experience. There are many local, well informed instructors who can assist your child; whether they be a very young beginner to an older child wanting to learn more about their horse, there is always something to gain from that intensive week at camp,” she said.
“Parents can come along and experience a little of that Deepwater hospitality with gourmet meals served and good times to be had, as well as a small amount of work just to keep the week running smoothly.”
The Interclub Gymkhana will take place at the Tenterfield Showground on Saturday November 15 with the usual club events of riding and hack classes for all age groups and sporting events including bend, barrel, flag, bonfield bounce, ben-bar-aft and the Deepwater Classic. Competition commences at 9am and all entries must include a Horse Attendance Form that is now a mandatory requirement following the EI outbreak.
Emmaville Pony Club’s annual carnival is expected to begin on December 29 and run for five days with camping on site. Anyone wanting to join in can contact chief instructor John Newsome on 6734 5308 for further details.
