The call is out for sporting stars, both on and off the field, as the Glen Innes Sports Council prepares to hold their annual awards night.
The awards are set to be presented on Saturday November 1 but first the public need to nominate to ensure both individual and team achievements do not go unrecognised.
There are seven individual awards that highlight outstanding performances with nominations being taken for sub junior (12years and under) boys and girls, junior (13-18years) boys and girls, senior (19years+), veterans/masters (age in accordance with the definition of the age group in the particular sport). The seventh is a service to sport which has no age limit and is awarded to an official, coach or administrator for outstanding service which may cover a year or a number of years.
There will also be three team awards in the sub categories of sub junior (12years and under), junior (13-18years) and open for any age.
The awards also serve as a rare chance to recognise those who give countless hours to ensure a sport continues to run smoothly with two special trophies. The Lionel Short Memorial for men and the Joyce Short Memorial for women are awarded for a service to sport that has been mainly behind the scenes. This may be for a coach, official, groundsmen, field marker or anything similar.
Any person, club, school or other organisation can submit a nomination and the Sports Council is hopeful of a strong number of nominations covering the sports year of October 1 2007 and September 30 2008.
Nominations outlining the achievements of the individual or team must be received by Wednesday October 15 and can be submitted at the New England Credit Union’s entry box or to the Glen Innes Sports Council at PO Box 355, Glen Innes. For further details on nominations contact secretary Tina Steel on 6732 4576 (a/h).
