WILL Melbourne Storm make it two NRL premierships in a row, or can the Manly Sea Eagles reverse their loss last year to the southern powerhouse?
One thing’s for sure - rugby league will be the winner on the day, and people will be glued to televisions across the district.
Anna Villella of the Imperial Hotel, active supporters of the Sea Eagles in this year’s Examiner footy tipping competition, is hoping for a solid win.
“They’re (my stepfather) Al (Tufrey)’s favourite team, and my mum’s too, so I have to say Manly - we’ve got a grand final party on at the hotel and prizes and giveaways, so it should be great,” she said.
In the other corner, Ben Lonergan, whose father Pat manages the Services Club which has been backing Storm in the Examiner’s tipping comp, remains confident Melbourne will win again.
“They should handle them pretty well,” said Ben, taking a break from study for his HSC. “I used to go for the Bears when I was little but have supported Storm since they came into the competition (1998),” he said.
Ben said he wasn’t sure whether he would be watching the game, but both agreed the earlier start is a good idea.
“From a publican’s point of view, it also makes it easier at the end of the night to get everybody out,” Ms Villella said.
Last year, Storm beat Manly 34-8. This year?
“No idea,” said Ms Villella.
“Storm 24-10,” said Ben.
